Don't vote for a CSC that won't reveal spending plan | Opinion
In November, voters will decide whether Leon County should support the ill-conceived Children’s Services Council. A planning committee was formed and met for over a year, and yet wouldn’t provide a budget for the $8 million in new taxes.
体育投注betWhy should Leon County voters endorse a blank check to some unelected body that will have the power to tax for 12 years without any accountability to voters and taxpayers? We do not even allow our elected City and County commissions to raise taxes for one year without a proposed budget, budget hearings and public discourse. None of this is going to happen because the committee decided to hide the ball and they’ll only be transparent after the tax is levied.
No one is against helping children. But it just doesn’t make common sense to vote for a CSC that won’t tell us how they’ll spend our money..
